357-358 confessions

I must confess I have no idea what the blue animal on the left is. I  inked it in, looked at it…and died laughing. I was at my moms house having tea when I was doing the color, and I asked her what animal it looked like. She thought it looked most like a hippo. So I decided to make it blue and see if it would pass as a hippo. When I got home I posted it & minutes later I was called out by a coworker! I died laughing again. It would have been so easy to fix my “hippo”, but I gave him life.

I did this in my book “Mama Wrex” as well. There was a horseshoe crab in one of illustrations and he just looked utterly drunk. I could have fixed him, sobered him up. Nope he made it to the cover of the book. You can buy the book at Barnes & Noble with my drunk crab drooling on the cover. 🙂

& then some animals are purposly made to look crazy…..

353-354 Getting punked!

I used to work late nights at a CVS in Aiken, South Carolina. One night I looked up from the register and there was a man just standing waiting to get rung up. He had one singular roll of toilet paper in his hand and his wee wee was just pulled out of his zipper. I just rang him up and ignored him and his man parts. I will always wonder why, did he lose a bet. Maybe he had OCD and giving it the shake just wasn’t going to cut it. Or I was possibly just getting punked…all I know is he didn’t get any reaction out of me at all that night. I guess this is my delayed reaction. This is my nod to that dude…whatever his deal was. 🙂

And now some Wizard of Oz… this blog doesn’t have to make any sense at all…clearly!

351-352 Kentucky & Rainbows

Everyone in Kentucky is so excited for the Prince concerts! I heard they started the tour in Louisville because its the drummers hometown. I guess so many people wanted to go to the show they are having four concerts.  I went to Louisville in October for a week & a half. Before the trip I wanted to know what Louisville was known for. Apparently every one has a story  of someone they know who dated Tom Cruise at some point(Tom Cruise is from Louisville), Slugger bats, Fried Chicken, & Hunter S Thompson. I had to do a Fear and Loathing illustration even though it seems once removed from my original Kentucky concept. I loved Louisville its a very cool city! I hope everyone who gets to see Prince has an awesome time!

Lately I have been getting lots of Prince ideas from coworkers, Thats where Rainbow Brite Prince was conceptualized . Rainbow Brite had to happen! Its not often I can go full on rainbow crazy when I do an illustration !

Here are a few photos from my Louisville trip! The First Photo is from 21-C-Museum-Hotel which I loved visiting, the next photo is a view from Falls of the Ohio State Park, And the Third is from Spinellis pizzeria, awesome pizza by the way! Its not everyday you get to sit in a sick car and shove your face with pizza!

349-350 behind the scenes

I falling a little behind on my blog…not too terrible though! Today I am posting for days 349 &350 but in actuality I am on day 354! Sometimes I choose not to photograph parts of the Prince illustrations so they look better aesthetically when I post them. When I do this though some of the little fun quirks go missing. These two are good examples!

I really liked the way my Norman Rockwell Prince came out on Sunday, so I wanted to do another famous work of art today. So today I did my version of Klimt’s “The Kiss”. Its fun studying the artwork while working on a piece there are a lot of details you miss and do not appreciate. I love the hands in this painting…thats what captures the love for me!

So here is my version with Prince & also Klimts!

344 Self Portraits

Twenty One Left to Go!

I was texting with my boyfriend (the very handsome Kurt) earlier today, and I was trying to think of a really good Prince to do today. He suggested Norman Rockwell’s Self portrait. I loved it, and went for it! So thank you Kurt for the lovely idea! I really want the last illustrations to be veeeery nice…as Borat would say! I forgot all the details in this painting. Clips of artwork from Durer, Rembrandt, Picasso, and Van Gogh he is using as reference guides. The glass of wine balanced on the book. A good challenge for a snowy day!

Then I started thinking of self portraits… What self portraits have I done? several in art school…but I have none to share. Maybe another day I will post them with some stories. All I have is this one done about a year ago.

I did this illustration as a gift for Kurt for his birthday.I need to frame it for him eventually. I think I need to re-draw myself…I can do better than that! I had Kurt take a photo of us on his birthday & then I handed the phone back to him telling him the photo looked weird (after I switched the image to the illustration I had done earlier that he knew nothing about) I thought it was pretty funny!
